The Only Pattern for Data Access is There Are No Patterns for Data Acc

Over the years of software development, one thing that has eluded most developers is Data Access. Yes, I mean writing code that accesses a database from your application. It is an age old problem since the days when data storage and computing were invented. We would have thought that by now we would have been able to come up with a clean universal pattern for data access such as the M-V-C pattern for User Interfaces or the Singleton pattern or the Factory pattern.

Oracle gets decorated by Microsoft... with an Obsolete Attribute

About a week ago Microsoft announced that the System.Data.OracleClient namespace will be deprecated in .Net 4.0. However the fact is that "deprecated" doesn't mean it will disappear completely anytime soon. In fact the official statement clearly states the following:

Microsoft will continue to provide hotfixes for critical issues in System.Data.OracleClient as per the standard support policy for .Net Framework 4.0. We will also continue to make critical bug fixes in future service packs for .Net Framework 4.0.

So it will probably hang around for another 8-10 years so your old application doesn't have to be updated for some time yet. But you probably don't want to write new .Net 4.0 applications with it. Instead you should probably search for third-party provi....

Why I would not use Stored Procedures, mattias-jakobsson.net

A very important task in just about any web application that you will build is data access. There is alot of opinions on how this is done the best way. You can use inline sql statements in your code, you can use stored procedures or you can generate your sql using a OR Mapper. From the developers that use sprocs you will ofter hear arguments about preformance and security, while you will here arguments about managable code from the OR/M fans. I think that, depending on your architecture, every bit of code has it´s own place and that different concerns shouldn´t be mixed up. That is why I choose to use a OR Mapper when I start a new web application.

Microsoft deprecating Oracle client in Dot Net 4

Microsoft has announced through a blog that the ADO.NET 4 spec will mark the Oracle client as deprecated with plans for removal. They are also recommending that users go to a third party Oracle provider.

Stop Helping the Competition?

Wow, this will mark the first time an ADO.NET provider has been removed from the .Net framework. Is this a case of Microsoft trimming the fat, or pushing Oracle? I always thought it a bit of a free ride that Microsoft was helping Oracle by building their provider for them...

Data Access Layer Design Considerations

To help ensure that data access in your application is optimized for performance, there are several issues that you must consider and a number of decisions that you must make at design time:

    * Design your data access layer based on how the data is used.

    * Cache data to avoid unnecessary work.

    * Connect by using service accounts.

    * Acquire late, release early.

Rapid Entity Framework - Choose simplicity over complexity

The Object Oriented Paradigm is shifting massively because coupling relational semantics into our fine grained object oriented programming designs is becoming unpopular in today's enterprise needs and domain engineering. Because of this reasons and many more, object oriented platforms is already taking a big quantum leap since the impedance mismatches between OOP and Relational has made programming against relational database an Herculean task for most development efforts.

Different operations on datatable (Add, Edit, delete, Sort etc) and X

Introduction DataTable is a central object in the ADO.NET library. If you are working with ADO.NET - accessing data from database, you can not escape from DataTable. Other objects that use DataTable are DataSet and DataView. In this tutorials, I will explain how to work with DataTable. I have

Suppose there is a table called "EmployeeTable" which have some duplicate records. There is a three way to delete the duplicate rows. First way to delete duplicate rows : Select distinct * into Emp_Temp_Table from EmployeeTable In the above line we are inserting all the distin
