WiX (as seen in VS2010) Documentation CTP - What is WiX, how to use it

This download contains documentation with information on how to use WiX to create Microsoft Windows Installer-based deployment packages. The Windows Installer XML (WiX) platform is a set of tools and specifications that allow you to easily create Windows Installer database files. The WiX tools model the traditional compile and link model used to crate executables from source code. For WiX, source code is written in XML files. These files are validated against a schema, wix.xsd, then processed by a preprocessor, compiler, and linker to create the desired result. The WiX platform has been designed to allow for the easy creation of multiple Windows Installer databases from a small set of source files.

CTP Visual Studio 2010 and C#4.0 avaliable!

Hi there,

Microsoft has released the CTP of Visual Studio .NET 2010 and C#4.0:

Visual Studio 2010 and the .NET Framework 4.0 mark the next generation of developer tools from Microsoft. Designed to address the latest needs of developers, Visual Studio delivers key innovations in the following pillars:

Democratizing Application Lifecycle Management
Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) crosses many roles within an organization and traditionally not every one of the roles has been an equal player in the process. Visual Studio Team System 2010 continues to build the platform for functional equality and shared commitment across an organization's ALM process.

Enabling emerging trends
Every year the industry develops new technologies and new trends. With Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4.0, Microsoft delivers tooling and framework support for the latest innovations in application architecture, development and deployment.

Inspiring developer delight
Ever since the first release of Visual Studio, Microsoft has set the bar for developer productivity and flexibility. Visual Studio 2010 continues to deliver on the core developer experience by significantly improving upon it for roles involved with the software development process. .NET Framework 4.0 contains numerous improvements that make it easier to develop powerful and compelling applications.

Riding the next generation platform wave
Microsoft continues to invest in the market leading operating system, productivity application and server platforms to deliver increased customer value in these offerings. With Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4.0 customers will have the tooling support and the platform support needed to create amazing solutions around these technologies.

F# : absolute power corrupts absolutely, but F# removes side-effects

Functional programming is so addictive. It reminds me when I could code with no team, no deadline, no broken processes or cultures to navigate. I do hope this becomes a common option for general development or at least C# continues to borg functional ideas.

January Orcas CTP Now Available

The January Orcas CTP went out last night about 8:30 Pacific time. It is available both as a regular install, and on a virtual machine. I have not had a chance to install it yet, so I can't give too many details of exactly what is available. However, most of the builds I was seeing around the time the code froze for its release had good support for LINQ to Objects and only shaky support for Linq to SQL. The release notes for the product are, however, more sanguine on Linq To SQL and Linq to Entities support.

IronPython for ASP.NET CTP

"Python provides a great example of how .NET languages can leverage the new dynamic language features that we added into the CLR with last year's .NET 2.0 release. For example, CLR features like "lightweight code-generation" now make it possible for a dynamic language to quickly compile and JIT source in-memory (giving you really fast code execution without ever having to generate or persist a .dll file). CLR 2.0 also now has the ability to garbage collect out JIT'd code (meaning you can quickly adapt types on the fly and not have to leak code). "
