This download contains documentation with information on how to use WiX to create Microsoft Windows Installer-based deployment packages. The Windows Installer XML (WiX) platform is a set of tools and specifications that allow you to easily create Windows Installer database files. The WiX tools model the traditional compile and link model used to crate executables from source code. For WiX, source code is written in XML files. These files are validated against a schema, wix.xsd, then processed by a preprocessor, compiler, and linker to create the desired result. The WiX platform has been designed to allow for the easy creation of multiple Windows Installer databases from a small set of source files.

Functional programming is so addictive. It reminds me when I could code with no team, no deadline, no broken processes or cultures to navigate. I do hope this becomes a common option for general development or at least C# continues to borg functional ideas.

January Orcas CTP Now Available

The January Orcas CTP went out last night about 8:30 Pacific time. It is available both as a regular install, and on a virtual machine. I have not had a chance to install it yet, so I can't give too many details of exactly what is available. However, most of the builds I was seeing around the time the code froze for its release had good support for LINQ to Objects and only shaky support for Linq to SQL. The release notes for the product are, however, more sanguine on Linq To SQL and Linq to Entities support.

CLR 2.0 also now has the ability to garbage collect out JIT'd code (meaning you can quickly adapt types on the fly and not have to leak code). "
