Windows 128bit was just baloney (msftkitchen.com)

submitted by rachael.dawsonrachael.dawson(15) 2 months, 12 days ago

Caveat: I’ve been sitting on the information contained in this post for quite a while now, but it has finally perturbed me enough to put it out there for all of you (and myself, for that matter). If you would be so kind as to help spread the word, that would be great as the lie has spread like wildfire and taken on various forms, such as sites now reporting that Windows 8 will be 128-bit (ridiculous). Not only that, but the perpetrator that started this mess needs to be called out with fair warning given to all. What you choose to believe by the end of this post will be up to you, but my intentions here are to help sift out the garbage in a community full of journalists who – like me – truly bust their butts to bring you solid, unique, and honest content. read more...

Windows 7 Installation - Part 1: Windows 7 upgrade advisor (www.hockblogs.net)

submitted by hockmanhockman(505) 5 months, 27 days ago

Hi there, Yesterday I have run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor on my Windows XP laptop. The noticable thing is that Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2008 needs additional installation after an upgrade and I should also update certain drivers after a Windows 7 installation. Real soon I'll be moving over from Windows XP to Windows 7. But first: Backup your data, which I'll be covering tomorrow how to do that. read more...

Windows Vista Performance Issue Illustrates Importance of Context (devcentral.f5.com)

submitted by mopenmopen(1034) 10 months, 28 days ago

The details of the problems being experienced by the poster (which revolve around a globally load-balanced site that was for some reason not being distributed very equally) point to an interesting conundrum: just how much control over site decisions should a client have? Given the scenario described, and the conclusion that it is primarily the result of an over-eager client implementation in Windows Vista of a fairly obscure DNS-focused RFC, the answer to how much control a client should have over site decisions seems obvious: none. read more...
