YouCube (3D WPF web browser)

As you know, .NET 3.5 SP1 includes a WebBrowser control. The current implementation is just a wrapper around the MSHTML ActiveX control, which unfortunately prevents you from doing crazy things to it through WPF.

The ActiveX control itself can be queried for the IViewObject interface and have its Draw method called. The WPF WebBrowser doesn't expose this directly, but fortunately the Windows Forms WebBrowser does (alternatively you could host MSHTML directly)...

The New Iteration when working with WPF

After one month of no posts, mainly because I was on a holiday and have become a dad for the second time, I thought it is time to write some posts again. In my vacation I've found a really cool article (actually it is a whitepaper) that is calles 'The New Iteration': How XAML transforms the collaboration between Designer and Developers in Windows Presentation Foundation.

It is an extremely important whitepaper for discisionmakers, it'll give you an overview of what XAML is, how the whole workflow process and roles work so designers and developers can work together and make up a far more efficient workflow.

This line I especially liked, cause I've seen it far to many times:

'There is no sitting over the shoulder of the developer explaining the vision and making sure she is re-creating it in the code.'

Oh yeah, also really inportant is the following:

'It is worth noting that, for both the designer and developer, there is an upfront cost of learning the tools and the platform. Without this investment, much of the efficiencies to be gained in the workflow will be lost.'

Working with Brushes in XAML

Brushes are used to fill drawing objects such as a rectangle, ellipse, and path. The XAML and WPF model has significant improvements over the previous GDI and GDI+ drawing model. This article covers basics of drawing and various brush types and how to use them in XAML.

The WPF ah-ha Moment

In nearly every bit of WPF training material or weblog there is some reference to the "ah-ha" moment. The point at which all the new concepts you've been learning gel into a cohesive unit.
For me, that moment was one or two months after I started developing WPF in earnest (by which I mean for users other than myself).
The task was to display two different indicators of a business metric, a green up arrow and a red down arrow.
