What Gives? Microsofts Code Generation Tool

In a world of Microsoft and third party applications, out comes t4. t4 is a code generation tool that can compete with CodeSmith, but its FREE and built right into Visual Studio. It has been years since the first edition with very little publication of the actual application. t4 is a free code generation engine from Microsoft that underpins the Domain Specific Languages and Software Factory toolkits.

BlogEngine.Net 1.XX where have you gone?

First off, I want to clearly state that BlogEngine.Net is the best piece of blogging software I have seen since Live Writer for Windows. I support this Blog provider and I have found this platform incredibly resourceful and worth its weight in gold.

CheckBox GridView Column with a web service call

Well, I had to revisit that idea today. My problem wasn't with the Check All button that I made, that works fine, the problem was with the the check boxes in the grid view column themselves. I was using the built in Asp.Net AJAX UpdatePanel to handle talking to the code behind EVERY time a check box what checked.

What class of programmer are you?

"People can be divided into two classes: those who go ahead and do something, and those who sit still and inquire."
What kind of programmer are you? In today's world of programming, the average programmer does not sit on the bleeding edge nor do they sit on the back burner waiting for the coils to get hot enough to jump ship.

The Art of Programming

Do you think of programming as an art or as a necessity? Do you think of programming as a passion or just something to make money off of? Do you find that when you write a program you are brought to a place that can no longer be called a job, but a life changing experience?

"A man can be an artist... in anything, food, whatever. It depends on how good he is at it. Creasey's art is death. He's about to paint his masterpiece." - Man on Fire

Employee Retention: The challenges of recruiting and retaining Gen Y.

The grass is always greener on the other side, but the water bills are more expensive. For the passed few weeks I have noticed problems with companies. The problems are large and small. Things need to be upgraded, changed and reconfigured for Gen Y.

Whats up with Stored Procedures these days?

When life throws you hard balls, you can either step back and take a swing or bunt the hell out of it. I just recently went to an information session on T-SQL, Stored Procedures and now LINQ. These folks discussed stored procedures and why they are so important in the world today.

A Revolutionary way to take notes!

For the past few weeks I have been testing out a piece of software for note taking. I found the software by luck trolling through www.stackoverflow.com. The software is called Evernote. It can do almost everything that is need to do when you need to take a quick note.

Another way of thinking about how to store data inspired by ASP.NET

A while back I witnessed how the profile properties of ASP.NET are stored in the database. All the properties all stored in one string. There is then another string that describes the properties and how to view them and pull them from the database.
