blog.spontaneouspublicity.com — In Windows Vista, if you hold down the Shift key and right click on a file, a new option appears in the context menu: "Copy As Path". Why this option is so hidden, I don’t know.

You can even customize the image by choosing your own colors, and then clicking the button below to update the preview and the html code:

  • "Kick It" text
  • "Kick It" background
  • kick count text
  • kick count background
  • border

Simply copy and paste this HTML into your blog post.

Why the option is hidden? Probably because most average users won't use it! This is more a geek feature than anything. It makes sense that it's available only via a keyboard shortcut.

Nah it should not be hidden... How many times has someone struggled to find the full path of a file? Nothing's easier than telling a user over the phone "right click and select Copy as Path"...

I'm sure glad it's in there though...

Just to play devils advocate, is it that hard to tell them to hold down shift and have them right-click the file? Sure, it's one more step, but I don't think anybody would have a problem with that. Then again, I've never worked tech support so maybe I'm being too generous.

I think the main problem is that Shift+Right Click is much less discoverable than just right click. Right click has been around long enough that people know to look there for options.
