JetBrains has released version 4.5 of their multi purpose productivity plugin for Visual Studio, ReSharper. This updates contains some pretty cool features. For example, solution wide analysis now checks for members that can be made internal. Also, JetBrains promises to have improved performance and memory use. All in all certainly an update that is worth installing, especially because updating from licenses for version 4.0 and above is free

Since forever, geeks who take themselves seriously have loved to brag such things as, "I use Notepad to edit web pages". Carrying this over to actual programming, "I never click into the designer when editing my ASPX", or "I never design a database using designer tools, I always design it all using raw T-SQL," or "I always update my SVN from the command line". (Someone in a local tech user group bears the post signature, "Real men use Notepad.") Puhleeze. I'm not impressed, and frankly I think anyone who brags like this should get a swift kick in the pants.

Microsoft cracking down on community extensions

Microsoft released a tool called Microsoft Source Analyzer, or StyleCop. It analyzes source code for standards violations. It's a 1.0 release, so it doesn't do some things ... like have a published API for custom rules or MSBuild integration. So the community dug in and figured out how to do these things and now MS is firing off license-violation emails. Don't they get it? The community wants to use the product, but it's too limited ... these extensions help make it better.

Essentially I wanted a way to make queries work better within the context of a Domain Driven Design approach. I'm a big believer in Persistence Ignorance, so this means that I had to find a way to represent queries in a provider independent way. LINQ does this for me, mostly, but I still need a 'syntactically pleasing' way to get the LINQ provider to the query at runtime. Well, it turns out that doing this is pretty easy.
