Creating Vista Style Login Screen With Silverlight 2 Beta 2

I was trying to create Vista style Login screen using Silverlight. I've seen couple of excellent custom Vista style UI designed in WPF by the known WPF gurus. Seeing their example I thought It's also possible to try something Vista style in Silverlight. Since Silverlight has many things common with WPF. So I started to get my feet wet to create a Vista style Login Screen using Silverlight 2 Beta 2.

Animation in-depth with Silverlight 2.0 Beta - Part Five

In the last part I've shown how the VideoBrush can be used and videos can be animated by dividing MediaElement into two parts. In this demonstration of Silverlight animation I'll focus on transitional animation. We've seen this type of animation many times in movies, television commercials, music videos, in sting which we see at the beginning of any news. The wipe effect and dissolves are mostly used in film and television. There are other effects which fall into the category of wipe and dissolves.

ASP.NET MVC Preview 3 Release

From ScottGu's weblog - "This morning we released the Preview 3 build of the ASP.NET MVC framework. I blogged details last month about an interim source release we did that included many of the changes with this Preview 3 release. Today's build includes some additional features not in last month's drop, some nice enhancements/refinements, as well as Visual Studio tool integration and documentation."

Animation in-depth with Silverlight 2.0 Beta - Part Three

Here's an example of an animation where clicking a button will increase the size of the font of the button. First I've declared two constants of type double, one for the font size of the button at the initialization time, which is declared as initFontSize; and the other one at runtime when the button is clicked. When clicked, the event handler creates a DispatcherTimer that generates Tick events every tenth of a second. The TimerOnTick method here increases the FontSize by two units every tenth of a second until the size reaches 48 units, at which point the button is restored to its original size and the timer is stopped.

Animation in-depth with Silverlight 2.0 Beta - Part Two

I mentioned in the first article that a Storyboard controls animations with a timeline, and provides object and property targeting information for its child animations. This is the cornerstone of Silverlight animation. A Storyboard is a set of one or more animations. It is comparable to a <TransformGroup> element. Storyboard does exactly the same things for animations that <TransformGourp> does for transformations. Storyboard has a Children property that enables you to access all the animation objects within a given Storyboard. Animations do not add or remove elements, they temporarily alter the property values of existing elements. If you create a new Storyboard and add a new rectangle to the canvas, that rectangle will be available to all Storyboards, not just the current one. The rectangle was added to the scene's base canvas and is not specific to the active Storyboard.

Animation in-depth with Silverlight 2.0 Beta - Part One

Animation allows us to create attractive user interfaces. Animation is used to apply dazzling effects such as spin a logo or video, make text scroll, make images grow when the mouse is over them etc. Animation is much like varying the property value over time as far as Silverlight 2.0 is concerned. This will be clear if someone takes a closer look at the animated stuff done in Silverlight/WPF applications.

LINQ.Flickr 1.3

Just released another version of LINQ.Flickr. The release is out with several bug fixes, code optimization, new feature and overall mocking support. I have used Typemock for the unit test of the product. In coming posts, I will show how powerful mock can be in faking routine like upload photo. But, you can dig it right away, if you go by the release page and download a copy of the product. Truly speaking, testing was never fun for serviced API till mock engine is at my hand.

Code Snippet - A new way to share your codes.

Recently , we have added a new section at dotnetslackers by which you can share your code to public. Before, letting you get started let me tell you that code snippets are tiny piece of code that can work as a unit, can come handy and be a real time-saver when building up complex solution or can be some interesting piece of lines which in turn can make out someone's day.

Mocking static methods with Typemock

There are mocking tools like Rhino Mock, Moq, NMock, Typemock and many more. Recently, I was kinda evaluating mocking tools to mock out REST calls in Linq.Flickr. Almost all of the mock tools requires some sort of interface reference to work on. When, to mock out methods like XElement.Load or File.Open is impossible with most of the tools, Typemock is one step ahead of others as it supports mocking of static methods...

Using Microsoft Expression Design to design the control in Silverlight

I've used Expression Blend in many occasions but I've never experimented with expression design since the release of this product. After the release of version 2.0 Beta of Expression Design this is the first time I'm using Microsoft Expression Design. In this demonstration I'll fix design of my control using Expression Design. Let's dig into the story .
