Linq to MySQL, based on Matt Warren's provider

On each release Matt Warren's IQueryable provider is getting more and more interesting. On this post I'll show you how easy is to plug-in your custom QueryFormatter to start querying MySQL databases.

Load and Play Media Files at Runtime using Silverlight 2

Sometime back, I had written a similar article Load and Play a Video File at Runtime using Silverlight 2 Beta 2. The article made use of the OpenFileDialog class in Silverlight Beta2 to load files at runtime. There have been quite a few breaking changes from Beta 2 to the final release of Silverlight. One of these changes affects Silverlight 2 application using the OpenFileDialog. In this short article, we will study these changes and explore how to load and play media files at runtime using the OpenFileDialog control using the final release of Silverlight 2.

As great as ASP.NET MVC is, it doesn't have such an easy way to set up reusable controls or "widgets".
Anders Hejlsberg: The future of programming languages

In this video Anders Hejlsberg takes a look at the future of programming languages and sees the trends; declarative, dynamic and concurrent. As the chief designer of the C# programming language and a key participant in the development of the .NET Framework Anders Hejlsberg has a lot to say about this development - not just as a wish but also as something that can be realized.

Randomly reorder an ArrayList and update ComboBox contents at runtime

In this short article, we will take a look at how to randomly reorder an arraylist and update the contents of the ComboBox at runtime, each time the contents of the ArrayList changes. By default, If your control is bound to a data source that does not implement the IBindingList interface, such as an ArrayList then changes to the list will NOT reflect as changes in the combobox. We will see a workaround in this article to achieve the same.

How to create fully encapsulated and simple Domain Models

Why Shout? Can't We just Talk?

Jeff Atwood started a programming Q&A website called StackOverflow. Judging from the response of the blogs, he seems to fail terribly-- not because he fails to create a successful programming community, but because the answers he suggested for the technical hurdles he faced were simply wrong. Lots of pundits saw his blunder, pounced on it gleefully and came up with less-than-gracious remark. As if they themselves have never make mistakes before.
Parsing Strings in C#.Net

Parsing strings in any language can be a little bit difficult if you don't know the right way how to do that.

Asp.Net error handling by HttpModule

In any real-world application, unhalted exceptions are an unavoidable fact of life. Such exceptions should occur relatively infrequently, but when they do some kind of supporting infrastructure best be in place to capture the when and why of the exceptions. As a developer, you should have the ability to perform a postmortem analysis on what went wrong and learn from it. Paramount to such analysis is capturing and logging sufficient information at the point of failure.

What this post covers is the thoughts and development of an Asp.Net HttpModule that captures and emails such unhalted exception information to a designated email address.

Using the ASP.NET MVC ModelBinder attribute

ASP.NET MVC action methods can be developed using regular method parameters. In earlier versions of the ASP.NET MVC framework, these parameters were all simple types like integers, strings, booleans, . When required, a method parameter can be a complex type like a Contact with Name, Email and Message properties.

This blog post shows you how to use the ModelBinder attribute which allows ASP.NET MVC action methods to accept complex types.

Which is faster? Silverlight or Flash?

Benchmarks of RIA performances:
Flash/Flex is faster when it comes to graphic rendering, but Silverlight is faster when it comes to pure computation speed.

Fluent NHibernate - Working with NHibernate without configuration file

"I believe that the most important reason why NHibernate is not more widely adopted by general DEV population is exactly the "Java XML configuration" PIA feeling you have while working with it.

Great news for all of us from that group: NHibernate is possible to be used WITHOUT configuration files! "
