The author of this article also seems a bit out of touch with times. I would say right now the hot "new" web paradigm is Ruby on Rails. It also worth noting that although MS started with a headstart when it first came out with asp.net, it has since lagged far behind in being the pioneer. Things like Ajax, MVC, Velocity seem to be an after thought while developers pick up technologies like jQuery, ROR, memcached to fill in the gaps. The overall analysis is largely true, ASP.NET doesn't get any respect but we can hardly blame developers for picking the best tool available today.
