It's the users that make the errors, not me. It works on my machine!

As much as I hate the growing prevalence of this let-us-hack-into-your-address-book functionality, that looks like a very handy library.

Separation of concerns. It doesn't make sense to overload it with this to me. Finding this while maintaining a project would be like finding cobol in an HTML file.

Don't get me wrong. It's neat what you've done, but I would just hate to run into it in the wild. I expect CSS to be... CSS.

This seems like something you shouldn't do.

I was just looking for something exactly like this.

Plenty of Fish isn't a good example.

Marcus has said the he doesn't use any server controls at all. It's basically a bunch of Response.Write and inline script, to reduce server load.

While that obviously works for him, it's not at all representative of the sort of code most of us write and need hosted.

Looks like cobbled together, semi-plagiarized info to push ads to me. Check out the links to pirated e-books in the sidebar. Not cool.

Reading that post has upped my excitement level for the MVC framework by an order of magnitude.

It seems like all of the supporting reasons are variations on horrible screw ups. How about putting this effort into not screwing up in the first place?

At my place of primary employment, the entire company (99% non-technical) is versed in and talks constantly in terms of the integer IDs in our system. I cannot even imagine how quickly I would be slapped down for suggesting we replace those with GUIDs, when management saw what a GUID actually was.

There's a bit more than IsAsyncPostBack there.

However, even that alone is something that many people are missing. Reading the ASP.NET forums' AJAX section for a bit makes that pretty obvious.

You have to remember that new developers are picking up ASP.NET for the first time every day. Those of us that are long-time ASP.NET developers benefited from being able to progressively learn from 1.0 to 2.0 to adding the AJAX extensions (and then forget it all when the MVC framework is released!). Competently jumping right into the thick of things today isn't a trivial task.

You're definitely right that UpdatePanels can easily be overused. In fact, one of the most popular posts on my blog is still "Why ASP.NET AJAX UpdatePanels are dangerous".

Regardless, there are very many developers out there using UpdatePanels, and running into these life cycle problems. Especially those starting fresh today, trying to learn it all at once. Hopefully, this post can find its way to a few of them before they make those mistakes.

Who knows. If they don't have to waste time trying to debug these issues, maybe they'll spend some of that time learning about page methods instead.

Basic, but good information that I wish everyone knew.

The content is great. I wish there were another theme available though. Tiny white text on black feels like a million tiny daggers stabbing the back of my corneas.

I just replaced UltraMon with this.

A little over a thousand views so far, and no one's figured out the question at the end!
