LINQ Closures May Be Hazardous to Your Health!

This article is really academic in nature on the topic of closures and how they fit into LINQ query expressions. It contains a highly-contrived example that is not representative of quality LINQ code. One of the most interesting aspects of LINQ query expressions is that they produce lexical closures. Exploiting closures in query expressions can be powerful but tricky.

Using Google Analytics with rich (managed) web applications in Silverl

Microsoft Silverlight 1.1 and the HTML DOM bridge can easily interface with Google Analytics to help you analyze, track, and better understand your web site visitors. Already a common activity for Flash and Flex developers, the concept of tracking within a rich web application may be new to traditional client application developers, and probably not something done with common WPF applications, but it's simple to add and very useful to advertisers.

SubSonic of the Day - They Query Tool

By now, you have probably heard of LINQ. LINQ, as you probably know, stands for Language Integrated Query. The LINQ queries you build inside of C# or VB are baked into the .NET 3.5 framework. SubSonic takes a more traditional approach (right now) and uses the Query as an object. Instead of doing weird things like var myQ = from.... and Dim myQ = Select..... you create an object and manipulate a query rather than have a language do the querying for you.

Proposed DotNetKicks Redesign

The current skin of DotNetKicks just isn't quite there. It doesn't look as cool as it could. And I'm sure it's just because the time hasn't been spent to make it look good. So, I thought I'd put together a mockup design that is based off the current design, but with some improvements. I like it, but the test is if any of you like it too. Let me know what you think.

An architect should code. Period

This has been said over and over again, but as long as it keeps happening it just has to be said again.

A very common career path in IT "promotes" a coder over the years to a program manager with architect responsibilities. And being an architect they stop writing code themselves. The thing I see over and over again is that these people keep living in the programming environment in which they grew up.

Effective user interface testing

User interface tests are a bit tricky - it is easy to get carried away and waste quite a lot of time, without getting any real benefits. However, if planned properly, automated UI tests can have a great effect on the project. Here are a few tips on how to make the most of automated user-interface tests.

In your face LINQ

Okay, I admit it, the title is an attention getter ;) But checkout our improved DynamicQuery syntax. I was writing some unit tests and just had to post this. Writing Queries like this with intellisense is so intuitive ... And it will work on SQL, SQL CE, MySQL, PostgreSQL, VistaDB, Oracle and Access ...
