I'll reinstate the stories when I get back to the office later.
simoneb simoneb said (1 year ago):
However, only the ones you received emails about have been moderated
simoneb simoneb said (1 year ago):
You need to ask Gavin about this, I can't restore them.
phayman phayman said (1 year ago):
are they totally deleted then? or just disabled / marked with a deleted flag?

The kick count is still showing up on my site.

Would be handy if you could tell me all the stories you deleted. (Was it just the ones I received emails about being moderated??)
simoneb simoneb said (1 year ago):
marshp3, kicking stories from your colleagues is ok as long as they are not the only stories you kick, or I would be brought to think that maybe you gave them the kick just because they work with you. Moreover, how can I think that one like rhayaman kicked 20-30 and more stories in a couple of minutes? Guys, do as you like, but this behavior is not fair to me.
phayman, the stories won't be inserted anymore, submit them again if you like

Re: Re : I deleted all Geekzilla stories kicked by the same people. phayman - rhayman - marshp3 - bclhaynes - sporleg - percent20

Have these been reinstated now??
marshp3 marshp3 said (1 year ago):
simoneb, that's not what I'm saying at all. What I'm saying is that I do read all my colleagues articles and I am giving them a thumbs up. Yeah okay, we all know each other, but it shouldn't be a "rule" that you can't kick a friends story. I appreciate your point of view, but I do think you're being a little extreame?!

Are you suggesting we need a little disclaimer as you kick a story.

"I confirm that I have never met, emailed, or IM'd the author of this story"
simoneb simoneb said (1 year ago):
marshp3, it's not up to you to rate the quality of your articles, sorry, other people should do that. If you kick a story you are supposed to have read it and found it interesting enough to give it a kick. Saying that it's a story from a friend of yours is not a valid reason for kicking, and I would like not to see this behavior in a community like DotNetKicks.
marshp3 marshp3 said (1 year ago):
Naturally I'm bias, but the GeekZilla community does have some excellent articles in there. And if you kick your friends and colleagues articles, well so what?! Its all about sharing and a bit of mutual appreciation never hurt anyone.

We only publish GeekZilla articles on DNK, and we're active supporters of the community with the kwiboo image service.
simoneb simoneb said (1 year ago):
Ok phayman, I'm glad to talk about this. Of course people can kick the stories they like and kicks from "friends" count as the others, but I just wanted to point out that it's not fair to kick stories just to do a favor to someone else, this is bad for everyone.
powerrush powerrush said (1 year ago):
Well, it is certainly not "against the rules", it just brought an issue to light (at least for me).

The "LightSpeed group" published an article in a simlilar manner just before yours.
phayman phayman said (1 year ago):
Point taken. sporled (Gavin Sporle) is a new employee of kwiboo and is new to DotNetKicks.. He will have come through to DNK from GeekZilla (one of our communities) and no doubt kicked articles he read as a result.

I am happy for his kicks to be removed from those articles but I feel as a newbie, he should be given a chance.

The nature of DNK and DIGG lends it's self to groups of people kicking the same stories.

Do kicks from "friends" have the same weight as kicks from other users?
powerrush powerrush said (1 year ago):
It's a "slippery slope" issue, as the purpose of kicks is a way to quantify the qualitative value in a story. And over a large sample of "votes", e.g.: Digg, it works pretty well (short of people paying for Diggs). However, since DNK is no Digg, the threshold has to be low, with the side effect being that all you need is 5 friends to kick your stuff to be published, and vice versa.
At the risk of never getting enough kicks to get my own blog stories published, my vote (if it is worth anything) is to up the threshold, especially since the DNK community has grown significantly.
In short, I worry about the quality of the articles getting published. A low threshold makes for an environment that is fertile ground for shills and "quid pro quo" kicking partners.
simoneb simoneb said (1 year ago):
If you look at those users profile you'll see they kicked many many stories, 10, 20 or more, all from Geekzilla, in a couple of minutes.
simoneb simoneb said (1 year ago):
No Gavin, I understand if a post from ScottGu, Rob Conery or such people get many kicks, not one of those I deleted. Anyway, the same applies to both rhayman and mashp3. Guys, this is not fair.
gavinjoyce gavinjoyce said (1 year ago):
It is a tough one. The fact that posts with 'kick it' links can cause the behaviour too. I know that when I see a post by Rob Conery in my RSS reader, I usually kick it immediately.
simoneb simoneb said (1 year ago):
They have been unbanned. Now just give a look at their user action list. sporleg kicked a whole lot of stories in 4 minutes, guess which stories. All from GeekZilla
simoneb simoneb said (1 year ago):
It's your choice Gavin, but those users were only here to kick their own stories, not a big contribution to the community. Moreover, those stories were visibly kicked in the same moment they were submitted. The problem is not that those users are real people nor that those weren't valid stories, but instead that they are cheating.
gavinjoyce gavinjoyce said (1 year ago):
I think that these should be unbanned and the deleted stories should be reinstated.
phayman phayman said (1 year ago):
I see you have banned two of my colleagues rhayman and sporleg. Both are real people..
phayman phayman said (1 year ago):
I only have one account.

Why have you removed:
- Triple DES encryption wrapper
- Fixing Form Action on UrlRewrite
- Getting the Virtual Path of a Request in c#
- Preventing Caching of an ASP.net page in c#
simoneb simoneb said (1 year ago):
You are being monitored for cheating on kicking stories with many accounts.
