Subsonic 3 released

Just read Rob Conery's Blog and saw that Subsonic 3 is now available for download. For those unfamiliar with Subsonic it really is the ONLY no BS ORM out there, in fact it is so easy to get up and running that it is easy to forget that you ever set it up in the first place. The whole Subsonic ethic is to remove the hoops that other ORM's have you jump through and essentially to get you home earlier.

Unit Of Work ActionFilter

Setting up StructureMap and The Unit Of Work ActionFilter

UnitOfWork ActionFilter

In my previous post I had created the repository implementations along with unit of work. But how do we use this unit of work in our application. ASP.NET MVC has a concept of ActionFilters. These could be applied to an action or a controller in general. The two main methods that concern us are OnActionExecuting and the OnActionExecuted. As seen in the code below we call the initialize method of the unit of work which would create a new transaction for us and this is held until the action is complete after which we commit the transaction. We are getting a new instance of _unitOfWork through an IoC container which I will talk about in a bit.

When doing code reviews or when working with code that was developed by someone else, once in a while I come across keywords that are rarely used. Some of them are forgotten keywords that are not considered a good practice and hence are not promoted by the community. Some of them could be handy and efficient but they never made it to the limelight.

If you want to be able to inject your ObjectContext using IoC (perhaps in a custom controller factory for MVC) and maintain a high level of testability you're going to need an interface that exposes not just the members of your custom object context, but also the members of the base ObjectContext - this article will show you how you can achieve those goals.

Provider Aggregator Pattern is an extension of Provider Pattern, which enables us to create and utilize multiple instance of the class having the same provider interface. In this pattern, there is an Aggregator class which implements the provider interface and contains a collection of instances of classes having the same provider interface.

Learning the Template Pattern

Taking a look at how you can use the Template Design Pattern in your applications.

The Template Design Pattern is perhaps one of the most widely used and useful design pattern. It is used to set up the outline or skeleton of an algorithm, leaving the details to specific implementations later. This way, subclasses can override parts of the algorithm without changing its overall structure.
