One thing that really bugs me about ASP.NET is the way it deals with header management especially when working with Themes. One of the big problems I see is that ASP.NET embeds the Themes style sheet at the bottom of the header list. If you happen to be using Master Pages which can have a header content section or your are adding additional CSS or style tags to your header the Themes style sheet will always end up on the bottom of the header list:

C# 3.0 comes with the .Net 3.5 Framework (not .Net 3.0...that has C# 2.0......I know.......hopefully .Net 4 will have C# 4 in it and we can move on from the confusion created by the release of .NET 3 - which is .Net 2.0 + Cardspace, WPF, WCF and WF).

What happened to the download links for ASP.NET Forums on the www.asp.net website? As soon as Community Server 1.0 came out the links disapearred. I didn't really think of it at the time, but now that I want to set up a Forum I would like the old ASP.NET Forums. I just looked at the CommunityServer.org website and it doesn't even look like there is a free version anymore. The cheapest version is the Personal Edition and it costs $99!

If you're writing generic non-Page code in handlers, modules or other system components for ASP.NET you might find that at times you need to use ResolveUrl(), only to find that this functionality is not available outside of the Control class. Here's a generic routine, and another variation that can return a fully qualified absolute path using the familiar ~ syntax outside of the Page framework.

As I've been porting Subtext to MySQL, it's been a learning experience. I've come to both marvel at MySQL's simplicity and tear my hair out at the maddening insanity of half-implemented features. I go back and forth between saying "SQL Server should have done this" and "SQL Server had this in 1997, why can't these guys".
