Formatting enums using ICustomFormatter

C# enums are named constants, making code easier to write and read. But the enum names should not be written to the UI. This post shows two methods of formatting an enum to a string suitable for the UI.

Recently I wrote about Visual Studio 2010 and multiple web.config files support. Let's see how to play with web.config transformation so we can use one configuration on development environment and the other for production environment.

Should You Use ASP.NET MVC?

There are a lot of ASP.NET web forms developers out there that admit that they don't "get it" when it comes to all the hubbub surrounding ASP.NET MVC. In some ways, I can sympathize with them. The vocal minority that raves about ASP.NET MVC gush about it with such zeal that they make it sound like you'd have to be a fool not to switch over. But in actuality, the decision isn't nearly as black and white. There has been talk about how the ASP.NET MVC framework is a web forms killer (despite the objections from those creating it), and if you listened only to them you would think that ASP.NET web forms development was done for -- cast to the wayside as an obsolete framework suitable only for amateur drag-and-drop developers.

So, quite some things have changed in preview 3, which made me decide to change a lot in the jQuery for Asp.net mvc (jqmvc) too. Since things have radically changed, I'll start all over again on how to use this project.

Microsoft Source Analysis for C# Released

From post: "Source Analysis is similar in many ways to Microsoft Code Analysis (specifically FxCop), but there are some important distinctions. FxCop performs its analysis on compiled binaries, while Source Analysis analyzes the source code directly. For this reason, Code Analysis focuses more on the design of the code, while Source Analysis focuses on layout, readability and documentation."

CSS sliding doors technique

This article will show you how to create fancy buttons using CSS sliding doors technique. It is much better to use this technique than to use image buttons because you can apply the style to any link and at the same time you don't have to create an image for each button.

ASP.NET MVC - Using Post, Redirect, Get Pattern

Implementing Generic Caching

I develop for a large, high-availability website, with hundreds of thousands of daily users. As such, we need to cache a lot of data in our web-server memory (which is cheap) to save numerous hits to our main database cluster (which is very expensive). I would imagine the desire to improve performance by saving on database hits is common across many web applications - and caching frequently used data is often seen as one of the best ways to solve this problem.
