hanselman.com — Its not very straightforward and not everyone may be able to get it, but MS is going to give full Visual Studio 2008 Pro licenses to those who attend any of the events that it is organizing. Its that simple.

Too bad there aren't any events on the east coast (preferably Maryland or Virginia). Just too far for me to justify.

Maybe I should learn how to read before I post. I just found the complete link.

Wait a minute. I just read the following:

"we're providing a location, install dvd's (these will be evals because the finals aren't pressed yet), and food/drinks. "

So we'd get an eval copy of Visual Studio 2008? What good is that?

If you read Tim's response on the link you supplied you'll see that you get a full version of Pro once the DVDs are pressed...

The "good" is that they will mail you a copy of VS2008 Professional when it's ready, free of charge. I'm not going to have anything installed -- I'm just going to see what there is to see and get some free software in a few weeks.

I signed up for the one in dallas, but got put on the waiting list. *thumbs down* just a warning to others on the fence about registering registering

You don't have to attend anything, you could download it directly from the web, visit the "official" microsoft asp.net . I am already working with my copy. But what is the catch?

Download VS 2008 Pro final (full function) for free, via asp.net?

I attended the event Monday night in Alpharetta, GA. Be aware that there may be issues with the registration. One friend of mine had signed up but they couldn't find him on the list (which wasn't sorted, either). I had to find myself on the list just when the guy was trying to tell me it wasn't there. Fortunately my first name is long, so it stuck out. Another friend who didn't sign up was put on the waiting list when he got there (just like the first friend). But here's the good news. Every single person who was there got a copy (with the code to get the full version). After reading off the list, they said, "is there anyone who didn't get a disk?" so that's at least some good news. Also, you get a free T-shirt, and I can never have enough free T-Shirts. :)
