My best tip, is to avoid using Vista. Use windows 2003, or even better windows 2008 when it gets out.

I am rolling back my vista tomorrow, and installing 2003. I am really looking forward doing some real work! =)

And yes, the harddrive is a good place to start upgrading. (just bought the exact harddrive Brennan mentions yesterday)
